Dearest Delaney,
Seriously? Six months old already? We are having the best time watching you grow up. This month has been such a blur because you are doing so many new things and relishing new experiences. Your dad and I are constantly thinking of new things to do, sing, and play with you, in order to avoid that "been there, done that" fussiness you communicate to us when you're bored. Luckily, your favorite things right now are Angus and Dudley and they are great at entertaining you throughout the day (and they adore the attention from you)!
You are able to grab your toes (and my hair, and things off of the table, and...). You can sit unassisted for a few minutes. You can roll onto your tummy. You mysteriously move all around your crib at night too. You have the strongest abs I've ever seen on a baby. You are constantly trying to sit up by doing what we call your "pilates teaser." You love helping us work our abs too and laugh when you fly like a "superbaby" on our shins. You love to go to our baby yoga class and interact with the other babies. You do a bridge type pose and then, rock your pelvis. You like to 'stand' and do your pelvis-rocking move too. You seem to think that this move will take you places (you are so ready to learn how to crawl), but we want to assure you that your pelvis-gyrating moves won't take you anyplace worthwhile. Yes, we're so proud.
You are getting skinny with all of this moving! You're still off the charts in weight, even though you only gained 3 ounces in the last month. And we can see your neck again! You seem ready to start eating solid food and so we are gearing up for all that changes with that (like your diapers...).
I know you're starting to make connections with some of our words. I'm positive you now understand the word 'kick,' or at least the verbal game we play when I say 'kick, kick, kick.' You watch me do baby signs too and I know it's not long before we start seeing you use them too. You think it's hilarious when I say "Dadadadada" or "Mamamamama." You have figured out how to turn on your Fisher Price Aquarium Soother. You are fascinating! And we've already contacted Ivy League recruiters about you.
The best thing about this month is your new trend of a three hour afternoon nap (vs. 45 minutes). Please do this until kindergarten. Actually, your new naps are the second best thing. The best thing about this month is your hugs around our neck and "kisses" (pressing your face against our face) that you give us each day.
Scooch Magee, Laney, Beautiful, Sweet Cheeks, Punky, Crazy Toes, Yittle Yady, we are laughing non-stop these days! Everything is so funny to you. Everywhere we go, people tell me how happy and smiley you are. Thank you for bringing all of this joy to us- we are so happy and smiley with you as our daughter!
Love,
Mom
